Congratulations to UK Law’s two Kentucky Mock Trial Championship teams who had strong showings at the recent state competition held in Covington, Kentucky. What does law, disasters of the 18th century, sports and shark biology have in common? They were all subjects of questions asked during the first annual Student Bar Association (SBA) Trivia Night to benefit the UK Law Legal Clinic.

The beginning of the school year is always a hectic time on campus, however, the month of September was especially busy for two UK Law professors. Scott Bauries, the Robert G. Lawson Associate Professor of Law, and Allison Connelly, the Director of the Legal Clinic and James and Mary Lassiter Professor of Law, were recently quoted and cited as sources in hundreds of national media outlets regarding the Rowan County (Kentucky) Clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses.
June 7-13, the UK College of Law, in conjunction with the Fayette County Bar Association (FCBA), co-sponsored the second Summer Law Institute (SLI) – a seven-day residential Law Camp for high school students interested in law and the legal profession.
UK Law Professors Allison Connelly and Bill Fortune were honored at the KBA 2015 Annual Convention.
The Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) honored Professor Allison Connelly with the 2015 Donated Legal Services Award during their annual membership luncheon. The Donated Legal Services Award is given to “an individual in good standing with the KBA and currently involved in pro bono work. The selection process places special emphasis on the nature of the legal services contributed and the amount of time involved in the provision of free legal services.”
For those who attended the Kentucky Bar Association’s 2015 Annual Convention you probably saw some familiar faces. Several professors from UK Law presented at the convention and shared their expertise with fellow lawyers. The professors involved and presentations given include:

The American Bar Association calls on each lawyer to render at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services per year. In the 2014-2015 academic year, University of Kentucky College of Law students went well above and beyond that to serve Kentuckians.
The University of Kentucky College of Law recently honored the hard work and dedication of the officers, members, advisors, and coaches of the Moot Court Board and Trial Advocacy Board (TAB), as well as many first-year students in connection with their Legal Research and Writing (LRW) Clubs. The Litigation Banquet recognizes the students who have excelled in both written and oral advocacy.
