University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg Professor Roberta M. Harding, who became the first female, African American professor at the college when she joined in 1991, retired at the end of the spring 2021 semester. Dean Mary J. UK Rosenberg Law Women’s Law Caucus Recognizes Advocates for Women at Spring Reception

The Women’s Law Caucus, a student organization at the UK J. David Rosenberg College of Law, held its annual spring reception on March 23, honoring Fayette District Court Judge Melissa Murphy, an alumna of the law school; Blanche Bong Cook, Roberg E. Harding Jr. associate professor of law; and second-year law student Sterling T. Crayton. Crayton won the Rebecca Westerfield Award for Excellence in Leadership for his advocacy for women in the legal profession.

Legal Scholar Robert G. Lawson Awarded Medallion for Intellectual Achievement

University of Kentucky Libraries has awarded the 2020 UK Libraries Medallion for Intellectual Achievement to Emeritus Professor of Law Robert G. Lawson, a nationally recognized scholar on criminal law and the individual responsible for drafting the state’s laws on crime and punishment.

UK Board Approves 1st Woman Dean of Rosenberg College of Law

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the naming of Mary J. Davis as full-time dean of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law effective Jan. 1, 2021. Davis, the Ashland, Inc-Spears Distinguished Research Professor of Law, has been serving as interim dean. She will become the first woman to serve in the role of permanent dean at the college.

UK Rosenberg Law Professor Bauries Receives 2020 Duncan Teaching Award

University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law Professor Scott R. Bauries was recently awarded the 2020 Duncan Teaching Award. The award is presented annually, courtesy of the Robert M. and Joanne K. Duncan Faculty Improvement Fund, to a UK Rosenberg Law faculty member for excellence in the classroom. The Robert M. and Joanne K. Duncan Faculty Improvement Fund was established in 1982 to promote outstanding teaching performance at the law school. Recipients of the Duncan Teaching Award are selected by the dean of the college with emphasis placed on student evaluations.

The University of Kentucky Gaines Center for the Humanities is exploring the legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in its most recent interview with retired Judge Jennifer Coffman on “Over Yonder: Conversations with Artists and Scholars on Social Distancing.” Ginsburg is considered the "architect of the legal fight for women's rights."

Board Announces University Professorships for 2020-21

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees today approved the University Research Professorships for the 2020-21 academic year. The purpose of the University Research Professorship program is to recognize and publicize research accomplishments of scholars across the full range of disciplines at UK. The award amount is $10,000 for one year, to be used to further the research, scholarship and creative endeavors of the awardee.
