Kentucky Law Journal Announces Symposium on Religious Exemptions and Harm to Others

October 19, 2017 On Friday, November 3, the Kentucky Law Journal, in conjunction with the University of Kentucky College of Law, will host “Religious Exemptions and Harm to Others.” The symposium will take place at the William T. Young Library in the UK Athletic Association Auditorium. The event is open to the public and will begin at 8:15 a.m.

UK Law Student, Assistant Dean Receive Torch Bearer, Torch of Excellence Awards

October 9, 2017 Christopher Lewis, third-year law student at the University of Kentucky College of Law, and Daniel P. Murphy, Jr., Assistant Dean of Community Engagement & Diversity, were honored with the Torch Bearer and Torch of Excellence Awards on Friday, Oct. 6, during the 27th Annual Homecoming Awards Ceremony at the King Alumni House.

Trivia Night Raises Record Amount for UK Law Legal Clinic

October 4, 2017 30 teams battled it out at HopCat last month for the University of Kentucky College of Law’s third annual Trivia Night. A record $1,540 was raised by students, faculty and staff to benefit the UK Law Legal Clinic. Approximately 200 members of the UK Law community came out to answer questions in categories that included horse racing, Kentucky sports, and bourbon. The money raised will go towards purchasing Thanksgiving dinners, and covering filing fees and other costs for Legal Clinic clients. 

UK Law Hosts 7th Annual Golf Tournament, Raises Funds to Benefit Students

May 31, 2017 The University of Kentucky College of Law hosted its 7th annual golf tournament on May 15 at the world class Keene Trace Golf Club. UK Law alumni, faculty, students and friends swung by the Champion Trace Course for a day of friendly competition and a “hole” lot of fun.

UK Law Students Provide Free Filing Assistance, Save Tax Payers over $100,000 in Fees

May 31, 2017 This spring, the University of Kentucky College of Law continued one of its signature pro bono efforts – the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Law student volunteers provided free assistance with tax preparations and filings to mostly low income individuals with simple returns.

UK Law Honors Class of 2017 at Spring Commencement Ceremony

May 10, 2017 Every spring, the University of Kentucky College of Law hosts its commencement ceremony. Though the commencement format may rarely change, there is noticeable difference in seeing how each graduating class leaves its own unique mark. Friday, May 5, was dedicated to celebrating the Class of 2017. 113 eager law students walked across the stage in the Singletary Center for the Arts ready to claim their award for three years of hard work: a UK Law diploma.

UK Law Students Travel to Vienna, Compete in International Moot Court Competition

April 20, 2017 Irvin Henriquez-Guerrero and Philip Padron, students at the University of Kentucky College of Law, recently traveled to Vienna, Austria, to compete in the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, vying for the title of best international arbitration advocacy team. The 24th Vis Moot attracted 348 schools from across the world and was held April 7-13 at the University of Vienna. “I’ve known about the competition for a while and had dreamed of competing in it for years,” said second-year law student Henriquez-Guerrero.

UK Law Students Raise the Bar with Success at Tax Law Competitions Across the Nation

April 20, 2017 Law students at the University of Kentucky College of Law have raised the bar this academic year with their success at various tax law competitions across the nation, including the 2016-2017 ABA Section of Taxation Law Student Tax Challenge, the Florida Bar Association Tax Moot Court Competition, the Inaugural Southeastern Regional Tax Challenge, and the Alfred Mugel Buffalo Tax Moot Court Competition.

UK Law Student Uses Passion for Wood Burning to Raise Money for DanceBlue

April 10, 2017 Ross Stanton, a third-year law student at the University of Kentucky College of Law, recently used his passion for wood burning to raise hundreds of dollars to help fight pediatric cancer. Stanton auctioned off two handmade barrel tops to support DanceBlue – a yearlong fundraising effort, culminating in a 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping Dance Marathon right in the heart of UK’s campus.

Members of UK Law National Trial Team Advance to Finals in Regional Competition

March 31, 2017 The University of Kentucky College of Law’s National Trial team of Seth Fortenbery and Nealy Williams made it to the final round of the 2017 National Trial Competition Regional Tournament, held February 18-19 at the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
