2026 Hall of Fame Inductee Glen Bagby Class of 1969

Glen S. Bagby ’69 graduated from the law school at University of Kentucky in 1969 while he was on active duty at Basic Training for the Kentucky Air National Guard, having completed his last final exams early with the assistance of then Dean W.L. Mathews.

Bagby has practiced law in Kentucky more than 56 years. He began his law practice in Lexington in 1969. The law firm Brock, Brock & Bagby transitioned into the Lexington office of Woodward, Hobson & Fulton in 1999. In 2009, the Woodward firm transitioned into Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where he is now Of Counsel. 

He was selected by his peers for the annual publication.Best Lawyers in America in three areas of practice, beginning in 1980, in Trusts and Estates, Family Law, and Trusts and Estates – Litigation. In 2014 and again in 2025, the Best Lawyers in America publication named him Lawyer of the Year in Kentucky for Trusts and Estates law practice. In 2015 and again in 2025, Best Lawyers named him Lawyer of the Year in Kentucky for Trusts and Estates - Litigation law practice.

Bagby chaired the Probate Committee of the Kentucky Bar Association from 1982 to 1985, during which time statutes which govern the probate process in Kentucky were modified by the Kentucky General Assembly, at the recommendation of the Committee, to allow more simplified probate proceedings, including informal settlements and limited court appearances. He helped draft a new Kentucky statute, which is still in effect, permitting the district courts to authorize the sale of fiduciary interests in real estate, by a simpler procedure than in the past.

He has co-chaired and moderated the annual two-day Midwest-Midsouth Estate Planning Institute at the UK J. David Rosenberg College of Law in July of each year from 1987 to the present. During that period, average attendance rose to over 240 pre-registered. In 2023, the Planning Committee for the Institute surprised John Tyree Bondurant of Louisville (who died in 2023) and Bagby by renaming it the Midwest-Midsouth Bondurant / Bagby Estate Planning Institute in their honor.
