Harry B. Miller, Jr. served in the U.S. Army for four years before he was discharged as a captain. Without completing college, Miller entered the UK College of Law and was an Order of the Coif graduate and member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Delta Phi and served as managing editor of theKentucky Law Journal.



After graduation, Miller joined his father’s law practice. He has been a senior partner of Miller, Griffin & Marks, PSC for over 60 years. Miller’s legal career began with criminal defense and later civil practice concentrating on injury and family law claims. 

Miller served as treasurer of the State Democratic Party for eight years and was Fayette County Chair of the Bert Combs gubernatorial candidacy in 1959. After John F. Kennedy’s election, Miller was asked to take a position in the Justice Department. Deciding not to uproot his family, he declined. 

Miller spent 11 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served as the president of Lexington’s Red Mile for seven years and has been an active Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. 

Miller is a member of the Fayette, Kentucky and American Bar Associations, as well as a fellow in the American Bar Foundation. In 2007, the Fayette County Bar Association honored Miller with the Harry T. Duncan Award, the association’s most prestigious award. Miller’s father, Harry Miller his son, Tom Miller and his grandson, Elliott Miller also graduated from the College. It is believed they are the first four-generational family to graduate from UK Law.
