SPILF’s Annual Chili Cook-Off a Spicy Success
On Tuesday, February 18, SPILF hosted one of their hottest fundraising events of the year – the Annual Chili Cook-Off. Around 100 students, faculty and staff attended this year’s event to help raise a total of $538.00.
Each year SPILF sponsors various fundraisers to raise money for the summer grant for UK Law students, host a speaker series of attorneys in various public interest fields at UK Law, sponsor public service projects, and organize other social events for UK Law students to promote public interest.
Chili cook-off competitors really brought the red-hot heat with the following types of chili:
- Deadhead Chili made by Hannah Jamison
- Ron Swanson made by Rachael Warf
- Skinnytaste’s Turkey Chili made by Cecilia Weihe
- Sweet N’ Spicy Chili made by Amy Newsome
- Vegetarian Chili made by Arshia Saiyed
- White Hat Chicken Chili made by Rachael Warf
Students look forward to the chili cook-off every year. SPILF President Jessica Beard says students are always eager to ask when the event is going to be held – because people really love chili!
“It’s just great to see everyone together,” said Arshia Saiyed, who cooked up the Vegetarian Chili.
Hannah Jamison was the chosen chili champ for the second year in a row. She makes her Deadhead Chili from a family recipe.
“My parents won with that recipe when they were in school,” says Jamison.
The Grateful Dead related recipe earned the 2L a $20 gift card to the restaurant of her choice. Congratulations!
If you missed this year’s cook-off, chili out! It will be back next year. Until then, keep an eye out for the student organization’s other annual fundraising events.
