Professor Cory L. Dodds joins the Rosenberg College of Law where he will teach Civil Procedure and Children and the Law. Dodds’s scholarship advances a theory of legal marginalization that centers spatial isolation as a critical axis of exclusion. He is studying how legal systems operate in “legal deserts” where courts, lawyers, and public institutions are under-resourced or absent. He is currently researching researching the rural attorney shortage and the effect of digital bureaucracies and algorithmic decision-making on rural communities’ access to welfare.

Dodds previously worked as a directing attorney of the Children’s Law Center, Inc. and a legal services staff attorney. He has extensive experience representing vulnerable and marginalized clients in public benefits, housing, consumer, and family law proceedings. Dodds earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a Public Interest Fellow.
