Professor Johnstone joined the faculty of UK Rosenberg College of Law as an Assistant Professor in February 2024 and serves as the Director of Academic Enhancement & Bar Support Program. She previously served as an adjunct faculty member teaching Immigration Law, Women & the Law, and supervising the immigration externship.

Prior to UK, Professor Johnstone served as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Bar Foundation and Kentucky IOLTA Fund. She previously worked as the directing attorney of Maxwell Street Legal Clinic where she practiced immigration law with an emphasis on humanitarian cases. She has also worked as a forensic social worker for the New York County Defender Services in New York City and as a staff attorney to Hon. Phillip J. Shepherd, Chief Judge of the Franklin Circuit Court in Frankfort, KY.

Johnstone earned her JD from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law where she was the Executive Editor of University of Louisville Law Review. While attending law school, she also completed a Master of Science in Social Work at the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work where she received the Whitney M. Young Award for Commitment to Social Justice. Johnstone holds a BA in Psychology and Spanish Language & Literature from Transylvania University.
