Shweta Kumar
Assistant Professor of Law
Shweta Kumar is an Assistant Professor of Law at UK Rosenberg College of Law, where she teaches Patent Law, Property, and Professional Responsibility.
Professor Kumar’s areas of research include patent law, FDA law, access to medicine, and health privacy. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in publications such as Cornell Law Review, Washington University Law Review, and Health Affairs.
Prior to joining UK Law, Professor Kumar was a clinical teaching fellow in the Intellectual Property and Information Policy Clinic at Georgetown Law. Before pursuing a career in academia, Kumar practiced intellectual property litigation at Goodwin Procter LLP in Washington, D.C. Her experience includes representing clients in district court litigation and proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), spanning a broad range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, 3D printers, and software. She also has experience working with the Intellectual Property Section of the Department of Justice, defending the government in patent cases brought under 28 U.S.C. § 1498. During law school, Shweta served as Editor-in-Chief of the Virginia Journal of Law & Technology and took part in the law school’s Patent Clinic. She received her J.D. from UVA Law and B.S. in Neuroscience from the College of William & Mary.
