UK Rosenberg Law Women’s Law Caucus Recognizes Advocates for Women at Spring Reception

The Women’s Law Caucus, a student organization at the UK J. David Rosenberg College of Law, held its annual spring reception on March 23, honoring Fayette District Court Judge Melissa Murphy, an alumna of the law school; Blanche Bong Cook, Roberg E. Harding Jr. associate professor of law; and second-year law student Sterling T. Crayton. Crayton won the Rebecca Westerfield Award for Excellence in Leadership for his advocacy for women in the legal profession.

Appalachian Law Caucus Donates Supplies for Eastern Kentuckians Impacted by Flooding

The Appalachian Law Caucus at the UK J. David Rosenberg College of Law recently collected supplies and monetary donations for communities affected by severe flooding in Eastern Kentucky. The caucus collected $2,200 in monetary gifts in just 36 hours. Students used the money to purchase cleaning supplies, non-perishable foods, hygiene items, and more. Some supplies were donated by other student organizations at the UK Rosenberg College of Law.

UK Rosenberg Law Students Win First Place in Diversity Case Competition

UK J. David Rosenberg College of Law students Shantale Davis and Ashlei McPherson, both first-year law students, recently placed first in the 2021 Law Student Diversity Virtual Case Competition hosted by Cincinnati-based law firm Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL in partnership with the University of Cincinnati College of Law’s Center for Professional Development.

Boston Native Becomes First Black Editor of UK’s Kentucky Law Journal

University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law second-year law student Kelly Daniel will serve as the first Black editor-in-chief of the college’s Kentucky Law Journal (KLJ) for the 2021-2022 academic year. Daniel, a native of Boston, recalls one of her most memorable experiences in law school when, during her first year, she and other members of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to attend a small gathering hosted by alumnus Steven Reed (’86).

Kentucky Law Journal Hosts Virtual Symposium on Sex Trafficking and Opioids

The University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law’s Kentucky Law Journal hosted its annual symposium virtually on Feb. 5. This year’s theme was sex trafficking and opioids. The all-day symposium featured attorneys, investigators, law professors from across the country, representatives from organizations that help victims, and other experts on the topic. UK Rosenberg Law students served as moderators and panelists.

Election Law Society Holds Election Debrief with UK Rosenberg Law Professor Joshua A. Douglas

University Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law Professor Joshua A. Douglas, a voting rights and constitutional law expert  interviewed extensively by local and national media outlets before and after the 2020 general election, joined the UK Rosenberg Law Election Law Society via Zoom on Wednesday, Nov. 11 for a Post-Election Debrief.  

UK Moot Court Team Advances to National Competition

The University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law Moot Court Team recently placed second overall at the Region 4 competition of the New York City Bar Association annual National Moot Court Competition at the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, and will advance to the national competition in New York City in February 2020.

The annual Kentucky Law Journal Symposium at the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law explored diverse perspectives on controversial American monuments and statues.

BLSA Students Finish Fourth in National Competition

University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law students Asia Ellis, Anthony Franklin, Taylor Kennedy and Toria Levy finished in fourth place, out of 61 teams, in the National Black Law Student Association Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition.

UK Rosenberg College of Law Students Prioritize Giving Back, Paying It Forward

University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law students have embraced community service as an essential part of their education. In the fall, among other activities, students made sandwiches for the hungry, collected pennies for families in need, and delivered school supplies to one of the poorest counties in the country.
