UK College of Law Welcomes New Academic Year in State-of-the-Art Home

The University of Kentucky College of Law started the 2019-2020 academic year in its state-of-the-art building, following a two-year, $56 million renovation and expansion. The facility was designed to support enhanced teaching and learning and provide the foundation for high-quality legal education in the 21st century.

UK Law’s Appalachian Law Caucus Brings Long-Serving Congressman Hal Rogers to Campus

U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers recently visited the University of Kentucky College of Law to discuss his career and current issues in Appalachia, including broadband access and the opioid crisis. The event was sponsored by the UK Appalachian Law Caucus. Rogers, who grew up in Monticello, Kentucky, received a Bachelor of Arts and a law degree from UK. He clerked for John Y. Brown Sr., a well-known criminal law attorney, then practiced law in Somerset after graduation.

Mary J. Davis Named Interim Dean of College of Law

University of Kentucky Provost David Blackwell has named Professor Mary J. Davis to the position of interim dean of the College of Law. Dean David A. Brennen has been selected to participate in the American Council on Education's (ACE) Fellows Program, the longest running leadership development program in the United States.  At the conclusion of the fellowship year, Brennen will return to UK with new knowledge and skills that contribute to capacity-building efforts, along with a network of peers across the country and abroad.

UK Law Class of 2019 Celebrates Momentous Milestones, Awards 166 Graduates with Juris Doctor Degrees

On Friday, May 3, the University of Kentucky College of Law held its Commencement Ceremony to honor and celebrate the momentous milestones of the Class of 2019.  166 eager and remarkable law students walked across the stage in the Singletary Center for the Arts ready to claim their award for three years of hard work: A UK Law diploma.

Women's Law Caucus Honors UK Law Professor and Retired Judge

April 8, 2019 The University of Kentucky College of Law Women’s Law Caucus hosted its annual Spring Luncheon this month at the Hilary J. Boone Center.  Alumni and distinguished members of the legal profession joined students, faculty, and staff to recognize retired judge Janet Stumbo and Professor Jane Bloom Grisé. 

UK BLSA Competes in Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition

March 29, 2019 UK Law students competed in the Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition in Chicago last month with a team of four 2L students and a team of four 3L students.  The 3L team progressed to the semi-final round and finished in 4th place out of 16 teams, making them alternates for nationals. The 2L team progressed to the quarter final round, finishing in the top 8.

UK Law's KJEANRL Hosts Fifth Annual Symposium

March 27, 2019 The Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture & Natural Resources Law (KJEANRL), in conjunction with the University of Kentucky College of Law, hosted its fifth annual symposium, which took place in the Senate Chamber of the Gatton Student Center on the University of Kentucky campus, and was free and open to the public.

Feb. 4, 2019 The Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources Law (KJEANRL), in conjunction with the University of Kentucky College of Law, will host its fifth annual symposium on Wednesday, February 27 in the Student Senate Chamber at the Gatton Student Center.  The event is free and open to the public and takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Presenters from Kentucky, the District of Columbia, Indiana, and Ohio include: Bill Lear, Chairman Emeritus of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC

Kentucky Law Journal Hosts Symposium on States and Federal Copyright Law

The Kentucky Law Journal, in conjunction with the University of Kentucky College of Law and the Student Government Senate, hosted “Intermeddlers or Innovators? States and Federal Copyright Law,” in October.  The symposium took place at Gatton College of Business and Economics in Woodward Hall.

UK Law Wellness Initiative Hosts Third Annual 5K to Promote a Healthier Law School Community

November 2, 2018 Despite a rainy, windy start, the annual Judicata 5K brought the UK law community together for what turned out to be a gorgeous fall day in Lexington, Kentucky.  The third annual event took place October 28 at Wellington Park, with 35 people and eight dogs running to the finish line.
