UK Board Approves 1st Woman Dean of Rosenberg College of Law

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the naming of Mary J. Davis as full-time dean of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law effective Jan. 1, 2021. Davis, the Ashland, Inc-Spears Distinguished Research Professor of Law, has been serving as interim dean. She will become the first woman to serve in the role of permanent dean at the college.

UK College of Law Receives $1 Million Gift from Stites & Harbison, PLLC

The University of Kentucky College of Law is pleased to announce a $1 million gift from Stites & Harbison, PLLC to support current and future UK Law students as well as the major rebuild of the now-completed Law Building. The second-floor Main Commons, a prime collaboration area in the center of the building, will be named for Stites & Harbison in recognition of the gift.

Mary J. Davis Named Interim Dean of College of Law

University of Kentucky Provost David Blackwell has named Professor Mary J. Davis to the position of interim dean of the College of Law. Dean David A. Brennen has been selected to participate in the American Council on Education's (ACE) Fellows Program, the longest running leadership development program in the United States.  At the conclusion of the fellowship year, Brennen will return to UK with new knowledge and skills that contribute to capacity-building efforts, along with a network of peers across the country and abroad.

Professor Mary Davis Awarded the Ashland-Spears Distinguished Research Professor of Law

  November 7, 2018 Mary J. Davis has been named an Ashland-Spears Distinguished Research Professor of Law. She is one of the leading national scholars in the field of products liability. Her earliest article, written in 1992, continues to be cited today on the topic of design defect liability, one of the most complex areas in the field. “This Professorship is one of the College of Law’s most distinguished professorships and is given to a current law professor who excels in research,” said David A. Brennen, Dean of UK College of Law.

UK Law Professor Completes University Research Professorship in Scotland

August 2, 2017 As the culmination of her 2016-17 University Research Professorship, Mary J. Davis, Brown, Todd & Heyburn Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law, served as a visiting research professor at the University of Edinburgh School of Law in Scotland.

UK Law Hosts Sixth Annual Developing Ideas Conference

June 13, 2017 On Wednesday, May 17, the University of Kentucky College of Law held its sixth annual Developing Ideas Conference. Untenured and recently tenured faculty from across the nation were able to gather and share their developing ideas for scholarship in an informal, supportive, and engaging environment – just before diving into summer research. Richard C. Ausness, Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Everett H. Metcalf, Jr. Professor of Law at UK Law, spearheaded the 2017 conference.

Her work on federal preemption of state products liability laws has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court.

UK Law Co-Hosts Law Camp, Gives High School Students an Inside Look at a Legal Education

July 1, 2016 Eighteen diverse high school students, representing all of Lexington’s public high schools and Sayre, came to the University of Kentucky College of Law on June 12-18 for the third annual Summer Law Institute (SLI) – a seven-day residential Law Camp for rising juniors and seniors interested in law and the legal profession. Kenleigh Joseph, a student at Tates Creek High School, participated in the camp this year.

UK Law Hosts Reception to Celebrate Faculty Scholarship

May 17, 2016 On April 28, the University of Kentucky College of Law hosted a reception at the Hilary J. Boone Center to acknowledge the strength of UK Law faculty through scholarship. Initiated in 2014, the Faculty Scholarship Reception recognizes articles from the previous two years and books from the last five years. The importance of the biennial event is to acknowledge the impact UK Law faculty are making both internally across campus and externally across the commonwealth and the nation.
