UK Law Co-Hosts Law Camp, Gives High School Students an Inside Look at a Legal Education

July 1, 2016 Eighteen diverse high school students, representing all of Lexington’s public high schools and Sayre, came to the University of Kentucky College of Law on June 12-18 for the third annual Summer Law Institute (SLI) – a seven-day residential Law Camp for rising juniors and seniors interested in law and the legal profession. Kenleigh Joseph, a student at Tates Creek High School, participated in the camp this year.

Professor Henke Successful in Appellate Court Decision

December 4, 2015 Melissa Henke, Robert G. Lawson & William H. Fortune Associate Professor of Law and Director of Legal Research and Writing, recently received a favorable decision from the Kentucky Court of Appeals in her pro bono representation of an inmate. The court ruling will be published, which means it will be reported in the official source of Kentucky case law and serve as precedent in future cases.

Several UK Law Faculty Receive Promotions

Activity around the law school has not slowed down over the summer. Many faculty members will enter the new academic year in promoted roles.

UK Law Litigation Banquet

The University of Kentucky College of Law recently honored the hard work and dedication of the officers, members, advisors, and coaches of the Moot Court Board and Trial Advocacy Board (TAB), as well as many first-year students in connection with their Legal Research and Writing (LRW) Clubs.  The Litigation Banquet recognizes the students who have excelled in both written and oral advocacy.

Professor Henke Sworn in to Kentucky Bar

Congratulations to UK Law Professor and Director of Legal Research & Writing Melissa N. Henke on being sworn in to the Kentucky Bar. Kentucky Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice Mary C. Noble (1981) administered the oath of office on September 6, with Professor Allison Connelly (1983) and Julie Butcher (1990) as witnesses.

College of Law Professor Successful in Pro Bono Representation

Melissa N. Henke, Director of the Legal Research and Writing Program, and Assistant Professor of Legal Research and Writing, has won an appeal for a pro bono case on behalf of appellant Jose Ramirez.

2014 Duncan Teaching Award Recipient Announced

And the 2014 Duncan Teaching Award goes to…Professor Melissa Henke. Every year, a College of Law faculty member is recognized for excellence in the classroom, courtesy of the Robert M. and Joanne K. Duncan Faculty Improvement Fund – established in 1982 to promote outstanding teaching performance at the College of Law.
