As the first continuing legal education provider in Kentucky, which is known for its in-depth and scholarly continuing legal education programs, the UK Office of CLE in partnership with the Fayette County Bar Association is initiating this new series of educational programming devoted to the quickly evolving use of artificial intelligence in the practice of law.
“We are developing this program series to meet the demands of the legal community,” said Mary Beth Forester, director of the Office of Continuing Legal Education. “We have had law firm information technology specialists, legal practitioners who regularly attend our programs, local attorneys, and students requesting that we provide specific programming devoted to artificial intelligence and the practice of law.”
Speakers for this event include Professor Christina Lowry, Law Practice & Technology Librarian at the UK Rosenberg College of Law; attorney Shelly Ann Kamei with Kentucky Legacy Law; and attorney Kyle Bunnell with Dinsmore in Lexington. All three presenters are experts on the ethical and practical use of AI and will share their knowledge and experiences.
The program will be offered live in-person and live streamed via Zoom. Light refreshments will be provided. Also, it will be recorded and offered as an on-demand program.
“Attorneys and legal professionals want to learn about AI and how they can use it responsibly, safely, practically, and ethically,” Forester said.
She said CLE’s mission is threefold: to assist lawyers in keeping abreast of changes in the law, to develop and sustain practical skills and competence in the practice of law, and to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the practice of law.
“UK CLE’s Artificial Intelligence and the Law Series furthers all three of these purposes and we are very excited to offer our first summit in January,” Forester said.
