The University of Kentucky College of Law has been named the 9th Best Value Law School in the nation by National Jurist magazine. This is the 11th consecutive year that UK Law has been ranked in the “Top 20” and the seventh consecutive year in the top 10. UK Law was the only Kentucky law school ranked in the Top 20.

“The best value ranking validates the many strengths of UK Law,” said UK Law Dean David A Brennen. “Our consistent presence on this list proves our commitment for providing a strong legal education that prepares our students for their legal careers after law school. Fourth in the nation is an accomplishment we are very proud of!”

According to the magazine, the rankings are “designed to find the law schools where graduates have excellent chances of passing the bar and getting a legal job without taking on a ton of debt.” The formula used in the calculation is weighted accordingly: graduates who pass the bar exam – 15%, employment rate – 35%, tuition – 25%, cost of living – 10%, and average indebtedness upon graduation – 15%.

“When you ask prospective students what is important to them in selecting a law school, three items are always at the top of their list: bar passage rate, debt load of graduates and employment rate. UK Law intends to continue the history of excellence in each of these areas to maintain our attractiveness to student prospects,” Dean Brennen said.
