A University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law professor was recently recognized for his podcast that delves into the heart of democratic processes, elections, and voting rights. Democracy Optimist with Josh Douglas, associate dean for research and J. David Rosenberg Professor of Law, poses the question: How do we sustain our democracy?

The podcast won the 2025 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Podcast in the region (Small Market Radio Station, Region 8).

The Edward R. Murrow Awards are presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) to honor outstanding work in the profession. RTDNA is the world’s largest professional organization devoted exclusively to broadcast and digital journalism. The organization’s mission is to promote and protect responsible journalism.

Douglas, host of the podcast, teaches and researches election law and voting rights, civil procedure, constitutional law, and judicial decision-making. The podcast, which launched in 2024, is produced by WEKU and Dynamix Productions under the direction of the Eastern Standard production team. The podcast features candid conversations with experts and engaging interviews with everyday champions of democracy.
