The University of Kentucky College of Law’s Office of Continuing Legal Education (UK/CLE) recently hosted its inaugural Education Law Conference. The conference brought together 105 education professionals from across the state to address current issues facing the education industry. Relevant and timely topics covered over the one-day program included state and federal legislative and regulatory hot topic review, FERPA Rights, free speech issues on the educational campus, intellectual property issues in the educational setting, properly handling crisis communications, current issues in Title 9 practice, legal issues arising from minors on campus, and effectively handling internal investigations. The inaugural event was such a success that UK/CLE plans on making it part of its annual or biennial course offerings.  UK Law Professor Scott Bauries, and Adjunct Professor and UK General Counsel William Thro, were two of the prestigious presenters at the conference.   • 1 Community College (Kentucky Community & Technical College System)

The attendees also included education law attorneys from throughout the Commonwealth, as well as representatives from the Office of UK Legal Counsel, Residence Life, Office of Institutional Equality and Equal Opportunity, Human Development, and UK Law faculty and students.   The national Legal Education Association was also in attendance as an exhibitor during the program.
