UK Law’s Trial Advocacy Team Best in Region, Advances to Nationals

February 22, 2018 The University of Kentucky College of Law’s Trial Advocacy Board (TAB) Mock Trial team of Matthew Boggs and Caleb Taylor won the 2018 Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) Regional Trial Competition, held February 16-18 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Boggs and Taylor beat 22 other teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee to win the coveted top spot as the region's best trial advocacy team. They are the 11th team in UK Law’s history to have raised the bar and won.

Author and keynote speaker Brian Cuban to speak at UK Law

February 14, 2018 On Monday, February 19, the UK Law Wellness Initiative, a student organization at the University of Kentucky College of Law, will host Brian Cuban, a Dallas based attorney, author and addiction recovery advocate and the younger brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban. Cuban will speak at the Gatton College of Business and Economics in Woodward Hall (room 307) from 12:00 – 12:50 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

UK Law students will provide free tax preparation starting Feb. 19

February 13, 2018 This spring, the University of Kentucky College of Law will continue one of its signature pro bono efforts – the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The UK Tax Clinic will be open Monday, February 19 through Tuesday, April 17. Taxpayers can schedule an appointment at http://law.uky.edu/tax.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder Shares His Experiences With UK Students

UK Law’s Jennifer Bird-Pollan elected chair of University Senate Council

December 13, 2017 Jennifer Bird-Pollan, James and Mary Lassiter Associate Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky College of Law, has been elected as the next chair of the University Senate Council. Prof. Bird-Pollan will serve as chair from June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019, with the opportunity to be elected for an additional one-year term. “It’s a chance to work with faculty from all across campus, and to work closely with the central administration, to try to make a difference here at UK. It’s a really exciting opportunity,” said Prof. Bird-Pollan.

UK Law Wellness Initiative Hosts Second Annual 5K to Promote a Healthier Law School Community

October 31, 2017 On your mark, get set, go! On Sunday, October 15, the UK Law Wellness Initiative, a student organization at the University of Kentucky College of Law, held their second annual Race Judicata 5K at Wellington Park to promote a healthier law school community among students, faculty and staff. Approximately 50 participants laced up their running shoes and crossed the 5K finish line, while additional spectators cheered them on along the route.

Trivia Night Raises Record Amount for UK Law Legal Clinic

October 4, 2017 30 teams battled it out at HopCat last month for the University of Kentucky College of Law’s third annual Trivia Night. A record $1,540 was raised by students, faculty and staff to benefit the UK Law Legal Clinic. Approximately 200 members of the UK Law community came out to answer questions in categories that included horse racing, Kentucky sports, and bourbon. The money raised will go towards purchasing Thanksgiving dinners, and covering filing fees and other costs for Legal Clinic clients. 

Justice Gorsuch Offers Advice to UK Law Students in Campus Visit

He spoke to University of Kentucky College of Law students as well as judges, lawyers and clerks from across Kentucky. During his talk, he offered a few pointers to UK Law students in the crowd.
