On Monday, February 19, the UK Law Wellness Initiative, a student organization at the University of Kentucky College of Law, will host Brian Cuban, a Dallas based attorney, author and addiction recovery advocate and the younger brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban.

Cuban will speak at the Gatton College of Business and Economics in Woodward Hall (room 307) from 12:00 – 12:50 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Cuban is a graduate of Penn State University and The University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He has been in long term recovery from alcohol, cocaine and bulimia since April of 2007. He has spoken at colleges, universities, conferences, non-profit and legal events across the United States and in Canada and has appeared on prestigious talk shows as well as numerous media outlets around the country.

Cuban is the author of Shattered Image: My Triumph Over Body Dysmorphic Disorder and The Addicted Lawyer, Tales of The Bar, Booze, Blow, & Redemption, which looks back at how addiction and other mental health issues destroyed his career as a once successful lawyer and how he and others in the profession redefined their lives in recovery and found redemption.

The talk is part of the college’s Dean’s Challenge Program, led by Jane Grisé, Director of Academic Enhancement and Assistant Professor of Legal Research and Writing at UK Law. The program consists of a 5 week challenge to introduce law students to exercise, nutrition, health education, and yoga, meditation, and other programs.
