Students Competed in the Nelson Mandela International Negotiations Competition

Third year UK Law students Jamie Houston and Staci Miller took advantage of their Spring Break to develop and enhance skills that will better prepare them for their future legal careers.  Houston and Miller traveled to Portland, OR over Spring Break to compete in the Nelson Mandela International Negotiations Competition (NMINC) in conjunction with the 47th National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) Convention. “Competing in the International Negotiations Competition was an awesome experience and Portland was absolutely beautiful,” Ms. Miller said.

UK Law Students Serve Eastern Kentucky With Pro Bono Services

(March 31, 2015) — Lounging on beautiful beaches, cruising the Caribbean and even international volunteer trips have become today's popular Spring Break pastimes for college students. A less common excursion is spending the week providing legal aid in Eastern Kentucky. But this year, two University of Kentucky College of Law students opted for the latter, providing a much needed service many may not think of when "alternative spring breaks" come to mind.

UK Law Students Study Abroad in London Over Spring Break

Current third-year students Stuart Michael and Rhett Dillon Quarles made the most of their Spring Break by earning law school credit while taking in the the sites of London, England.  Both students took advantage of the study abroad program offered through the UK College of Law and earned academic credit by studying Corporate Law under Justice Randy J. Holland of the Delaware Supreme Court. 

Healy Reappointed Academic Ombud

By: Sarah Geegan LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 30, 2015)  Michael P. Healy, Wendell H. Ford Professor of Law, will continue his role of University of Kentucky academic ombud for 2015-2016. The Office of Academic Ombud Services at the University of Kentucky, is responsible for assisting students and instructors in resolving academic related problems and conflicts. The office ensures that fair policies, processes and procedures are equitably implemented. Healy's new term will begin July 1, 2015 and will continue through June 30, 2016.

UK Law Co-hosts a Government and Public Service Career Panel

The UK College of Law Career Development office and the American Bar Association recently teamed up to co-host a government and public service career panel for interested students.  The panelists provided insight into their career paths and gave students interested in government and public service work, tips on how to break in to the field.  The panelists expressed their enjoyment with the work they do and described the rewarding aspects of their careers.  “Serving the community as a government or public sector lawyer is a highly satisfying way to advance the common good.

Professor Christopher Frost Inducted into American College of Bankruptcy

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 25, 2015) — Recognized for his contribution to the insolvency field and service to the profession and his community, Christopher Frost, University of Kentucky Thomas P. Lewis Professor of Law, was recently inducted into the American College of Bankruptcy at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Faces of Liberty: Roberta Harding

Professor Roberta Harding, Judge William T. Lafferty Professor of Law, was recently profiled by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kentucky as one of their “Faces of Liberty.” To mark their 60th anniversary, each week through December 2015, the ACLU of Kentucky will feature a member, client, case, board or staff member who has been “an integral part” of the organization’s rich history.
