Dean Brennen Named to Lawyers Of Color's Power List

Brennen, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Law, has been named to the Lawyers of Color's Fourth Annual Power List, a comprehensive catalog of the nation’s most influential minority attorneys and non-minority diversity advocates. Dean Brennen will be profiled in the Lawyers Of Color's Power Issue 2015 and honored at a reception March 18 in Washington, D.C.

Professor Authors Global Network Initiative Report on Legal Assistance in Internet Era

Woods, assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law, has written a report released this week by the Global Network Initiative (GNI), titled "Data Beyond Borders: Mutual Legal Assistance in the Internet Era." Woods also presented the report on Wednesday to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Richard Ausness Appointed Associate Dean

Richard Ausness, the Everett H. Metcalf, Jr. Professor of Law, was appointed and now serves as the inaugural Associate Dean for Faculty Research at the University of Kentucky College of Law. “The College of Law places emphasis on faculty research and we are pleased Professor Richard Ausness accepted this associate dean position to provide faculty support in the area,” said David A. Brennen, UK College of Law Dean. “I am certain that his many years of teaching and research experience will make him an outstanding asset to all of our faculty.”

Scott R. Bauries, University of Kentucky Robert G. Lawson Associate Professor of Law, was quoted January in the New York Times article, “Washington Governor Seeks New Taxes as a Court Order Looms.” The article surrounds the proposal Governor Jay Inslee of Washington announced this week to raise $1.4 billion in new tax revenue, with the majority of the funds going toward education.

Spring 2015 Faculty Practitioners

The University of Kentucky College of Law is pleased to welcome to campus two new Faculty Practitioners for the Spring 2015 Semester. Faculty Practitioners are experienced practitioners hired to teach on a full-time but temporary basis, and also are in residence at the College of Law to be engaged with students. Our new Faculty Practitioners are Gayle W. Herndon and James G. Harralson. They join Marianna Jackson Clay, who has been a Faculty Practitioner in residence at the College of Law since the Fall 2013 semester.

Campbell Law Professor Delivers Black History Month Lecture

The College of Law helped to kick off campus Black History Month observances with a lecture from Campbell Law School Assistant Professor Amos Jones, "The Dismantling of De Jure Segregation in Kentucky: How Slave Religion, Strategic Voting, and Creative Lawyering Broke Barriers in a Socially Advanced Border State." The lecture was was co-sponsored by the UK Martin Luther King, Jr.

Schwemm Paper Cited by Department of Housing and Urban Development

Schwemm, Ashland-Spears Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law, has led to the adoption of final regulations by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) endorsing use of the “discriminatory effect” standard under the federal Fair Housing Act.
