Ollen B. Hinnant II Leaves Behind Legacy as First African-American Graduate of UK Law

September 1, 2016 Ollen B. Hinnant II (UK Law ’55), who passed away at the age of 85 on August 4, 2016, left behind three children and one grandson. But, he also left behind an enduring legacy at the University of Kentucky College of Law as the first African-American student to graduate from the law school. A native of Lexington and a 1952 graduate of Kentucky State University, Hinnant helped change the course of the institution and the Commonwealth.

UK Law Co-Hosts Law Camp, Gives High School Students an Inside Look at a Legal Education

July 1, 2016 Eighteen diverse high school students, representing all of Lexington’s public high schools and Sayre, came to the University of Kentucky College of Law on June 12-18 for the third annual Summer Law Institute (SLI) – a seven-day residential Law Camp for rising juniors and seniors interested in law and the legal profession. Kenleigh Joseph, a student at Tates Creek High School, participated in the camp this year.

UK Law’s VITA Program Wraps up a Successful Season

June 17, 2016 This spring, the University of Kentucky College of Law continued one of its signature pro bono efforts – the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. UK College of Law student volunteers provided free assistance with tax preparations and filings to mostly low income individuals with simple returns. UK Law Hosts 6th Annual Golf Tournament, Raises $10,000 to Benefit Students

UK Law Honors Class of 2016, Awards 146 Graduates with Degrees

May 17, 2016 On Friday, May 6, the University of Kentucky College of Law held its Commencement Ceremony to honor and celebrate the Class of 2016. 146 eager and remarkable law students walked across the stage in the Singletary Center for the Arts ready to claim their award for three years of hard work: A UK Law diploma. “Today is a day of joy – for graduates and for all of us here today. We all share your sense of accomplishment, your sense of relief, and your sense of anticipation about the future,” said David A. Brennen, Dean at UK College of Law.

Emeritus Professor Bob Lawson Receives Development Service Award

Mobley Development Awards, announced by D. Michael Richey, vice president for development and chief development officer. The ceremony was conducted Nov. 12 in the Helen G. King Alumni House.

UK Board of Trustees Approves Design Phase of UK Law Building Campaign

Dear Law School Community, I am pleased to announce the UK Board of Trustees has approved the next phase of renovating and expanding the UK Law building. UK Law CLE Office Hosts Inaugural Education Law Conference

The University of Kentucky College of Law’s Office of Continuing Legal Education (UK/CLE) recently hosted its inaugural Education Law Conference. The conference brought together 105 education professionals from across the state to address current issues facing the education industry.
