Deputy Chief Justice Meets with Students

Kentucky Deputy Chief Justice Mary C. Noble continued the Judicial Conversation series this week, holding an open forum on Wednesday, April 3. About 30 students gathered to hear her as she gave an overview of the history and processes of the Kentucky court system, followed by a question and answer session moderated by District Court Judge Jennifer Coffman (1978).

Results of 2013 Oral Advocacy Tourney

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the UK College of Law’s Legal Research and Writing Program hosted the final round of the first-year oral advocacy tournament, which was the culmination of a single-elimination moot court competition in which students made oral arguments relating to their appellate brief problem for the LRW Course. The two final student advocates were Lynsey Freeman, Counsel for the Appellant (Commonwealth of Kentucky) and Quinn Hill, Counsel for Defendant Regina Asher.

Melynda Price Honored with Teaching Award

Congratulations to Professor Melynda Price, the recipient of the 2013 Duncan Teaching Award at the College of Law. Professor Price is the Robert E. Harding, Jr. Associate Professor of Law. According to her students, Professor Price's classroom teaching is outstanding. Not only do the students enjoy her in the classroom, they also see Professor Price as embodying many of the values we hope our students take from law school. Our Nixon on CNN in August

OUR NIXON is an all-archival documentary presenting the Super 8 home movies of H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and Dwight Chapin for the very first time. The footage from Nixon's aides, which obsessively documents their time in the White House, was seized by the FBI during the Watergate investigation, then filed away and forgotten for almost 40 years. The home movies are presented with other rare footage, creating an intimate and complex portrait of the Nixon presidency as never seen before.

Professor Henke Sworn in to Kentucky Bar

Congratulations to UK Law Professor and Director of Legal Research & Writing Melissa N. Henke on being sworn in to the Kentucky Bar. Kentucky Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice Mary C. Noble (1981) administered the oath of office on September 6, with Professor Allison Connelly (1983) and Julie Butcher (1990) as witnesses.

Legal Research and Writing Program Hosts Practitioner Panel

On September 18, College of Law first-year students had an opportunity to hear about how law practitioners use legal writing skills in their careers. The panel, hosted by the Legal Research & Writing Program was attended by Chad Meredith (2007), a Lexington attorney, Cary McCollum, Assistant General Counsel for Alliance Coal, LLC, and Cheryl Morgan (1996), Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the Eastern District of Kentucky.
