Faces of Liberty: Roberta Harding

Professor Roberta Harding, Judge William T. Lafferty Professor of Law, was recently profiled by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kentucky as one of their “Faces of Liberty.” To mark their 60th anniversary, each week through December 2015, the ACLU of Kentucky will feature a member, client, case, board or staff member who has been “an integral part” of the organization’s rich history. Dean Brennen Named to Lawyers Of Color's Power List

Brennen, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Law, has been named to the Lawyers of Color's Fourth Annual Power List, a comprehensive catalog of the nation’s most influential minority attorneys and non-minority diversity advocates. Dean Brennen will be profiled in the Lawyers Of Color's Power Issue 2015 and honored at a reception March 18 in Washington, D.C.

UK College of Law Hosted Regionals of National Trial Competition

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 12, 2015) – Law students from thirteen different law schools and four different states made the trip to Lexington to compete for a chance to participate in the National Trial Competition, the most prestigious trial competition in the nation. The University of Kentucky College of Law and the Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Trial Lawyers co-hosted the regional competition at the Fayette District and Circuit Courthouses Feb. 6-8.

Professor Authors Global Network Initiative Report on Legal Assistance in Internet Era

Woods, assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law, has written a report released this week by the Global Network Initiative (GNI), titled "Data Beyond Borders: Mutual Legal Assistance in the Internet Era." Woods also presented the report on Wednesday to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Richard Ausness Appointed Associate Dean

Richard Ausness, the Everett H. Metcalf, Jr. Professor of Law, was appointed and now serves as the inaugural Associate Dean for Faculty Research at the University of Kentucky College of Law. “The College of Law places emphasis on faculty research and we are pleased Professor Richard Ausness accepted this associate dean position to provide faculty support in the area,” said David A. Brennen, UK College of Law Dean. “I am certain that his many years of teaching and research experience will make him an outstanding asset to all of our faculty.”

Spring 2015 Judicial Conversation Series

The University of Kentucky College of Law is pleased to announce Judge Roger L. Gregory, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, will be our Spring 2015 speaker for the Judicial Conversation Series. The event will take place at Noon on February 18, 2015, in the College of Law Courtroom.

Professor Quoted in the New York Times

Scott R. Bauries, University of Kentucky Robert G. Lawson Associate Professor of Law, was quoted January in the New York Times article, “Washington Governor Seeks New Taxes as a Court Order Looms.” The article surrounds the proposal Governor Jay Inslee of Washington announced this week to raise $1.4 billion in new tax revenue, with the majority of the funds going toward education.

Spring 2015 Faculty Practitioners

The University of Kentucky College of Law is pleased to welcome to campus two new Faculty Practitioners for the Spring 2015 Semester. Faculty Practitioners are experienced practitioners hired to teach on a full-time but temporary basis, and also are in residence at the College of Law to be engaged with students. Our new Faculty Practitioners are Gayle W. Herndon and James G. Harralson. They join Marianna Jackson Clay, who has been a Faculty Practitioner in residence at the College of Law since the Fall 2013 semester.

The Election Law Society Analysis Blog A Huge Hit

Members of the Election Law Society and Professor Josh Douglas spent approximately eight hours on November 4, 2014 covering potential legal issues arising during the tabulation of the election results and posting stories in real time regarding these issues on their analysis blog.
