College of Law Professor Publishes New Casebook

Professor Josh Douglas, along with two co-authors, has published a brand new casebook, "Election Law and Litigation: The Judicial Regulation of Politics." The 846-page book offers a student-friendly, practical approach with carefully-designed pedagogical features. College of Law Announces Judicial Conversation Series

The University of Kentucky College of Law is pleased to announce that the Judicial Conversation Series is back again for Spring 2014. Kentucky Chief Justice John D. Minton will kick off this year’s series on Friday, April 4, at noon, followed by U.S. Tax Court Judge Joseph Goeke on Friday, April 11, at noon. Each forum will be moderated by Judge Jennifer B. Coffman (Retired), Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky.

Intellectual Property Law Society Hosts Guest Speaker

On Friday, February 21, the Intellectual Property Law Society hosted guest speaker Lisa Mueller, who spoke about Patent Trolls, with roughly 20 College of Law students. Ms. Mueller is a partner in Michael Best’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and a member of the Life Sciences and Chemical Industry Group. During her presentation she covered the damaging effects that patent trolls have, not only on corporations, but also on small businesses that use products that infringe upon the patent owner’s invention.

College of Law Professor’s Brief Filed with the U.S. Supreme Court

University of Kentucky College of Law Professor Scott Bauries, along with two co-authors, has written an amicus brief that was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in Lane v. Franks, an appeal for which the Court will hear oral argument on April 28th.

University of Kentucky College of Law Serves as Host Site for Legal Aid University

The University of Kentucky College of Law served as the host site on Friday, March 14, for Legal Aid University: How Young Lawyers Can Build a Practice and Hone Skills. This free CLE program, put together by the KBA Young Lawyers Division and Kentucky Legal Aid Programs, is offered to lawyers interested in learning basic skills in a variety of high-demand practice areas and who agree to accept at least three pro bono cases from the local legal aid program.

Career Development Hosts Judicial Clerkship Panel

Students considering summer and post-graduation clerkships filled the College of Law Courtroom on Wednesday, March 12, for the Judicial Clerkship Panel. The panel of state and federal judges, representing the trial and appellate levels of the state and federal judiciary, and their law clerks, spent the hour speaking about the benefits of judicial clerkships and encouraging students to submit applications. Women’s Law Caucus Members Attend Ms. JD Conference

Women’s Law Caucus members Ashley Adkins, Shannon Leahy, Ally Miller and Megan Pigman attended Ms. JD: Passion Forward, the Sixth Annual Conference on Women in Law, held at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, February 21-22, 2014. It was the first year members of The Women’s Law Caucus attended the conference and the 3L students were ecstatic about the opportunity. They hope that this will be the start of a yearly tradition for the student organization. “The timing in our 3L year was great!” exclaimed Megan Pigman, President of Women’s Law Caucus.
